URBAN HAIR STUDIO
01. THE CHALLENGE
When we first stepped into the empty shell that would become Urban Hair Studio, we knew the design needed to capture more than just style—it had to reflect the artistry and confidence that clients expect when they walk into a salon. Our goal was to create a space that felt modern, inviting, and functional for both stylists and guests.
Balancing Style and Function
Salons are unique design challenges because they demand both beauty and efficiency. For Urban Hair Studio, I combined clean, contemporary lines with warm accents to avoid the coldness that can come with minimalism. Every choice, from flooring to furniture, had to stand up to high traffic while still looking polished and fresh.

02. THE SOLUTION
Lighting as a Design Tool
Lighting was one of the most critical elements. I layered natural daylight with focused task lighting at each station, ensuring stylists could work with precision. To soften the space, I incorporated ambient fixtures that cast a warm glow, creating a flattering and comfortable environment for clients.
Creating Comfort Zones
The waiting area was designed as more than just a holding space—it’s the first impression. I chose seating that feels relaxed yet stylish, paired with curated décor and greenery to bring life and warmth. In the workstations, ergonomic design was key, allowing stylists to move seamlessly while clients could settle in with ease.

- Space Planning & Layout – Created an open floor plan with defined zones for waiting, styling, washing, and retail.
- Lighting Design – Installed layered lighting: natural light maximization, task lighting for precision, and warm ambient fixtures for atmosphere.
- Color Palette – Chose a neutral base with earthy accent tones to strike a balance between modern sophistication and creative energy.
- Furniture & Fixtures – Selected ergonomic styling chairs, custom-built stations, and comfortable lounge seating for the waiting area.
- Flooring – Opted for durable, easy-to-clean materials that withstand heavy foot traffic while maintaining a sleek aesthetic.
- Mirrors – Installed oversized, strategically placed mirrors to enhance light, create a sense of openness, and elevate the styling experience.
- Brand Identity – Integrated the salon’s personality through curated wall art, greenery, and accent décor.
- Acoustics – Considered sound absorption to keep the space lively but not overwhelming.
- Storage Solutions – Built in hidden storage to keep tools organized and maintain a clutter-free look.
- Client Experience Touches – Designed a welcoming reception desk and comfortable waiting area that set the tone from the first step inside.
03. THE RESULT
Personality in the Details
Urban Hair Studio’s design wouldn’t be complete without touches of personality. Artwork, textures, and accent colors all reflect the studio’s creative spirit. These small but intentional details ensure the space feels less like a service location and more like a destination.
